The Spark Of Life

... because I felt like coloring the sketch I did before we moved. It's inspired by Erich Maria Remarque's novel "Three Comrades" and shows Pat somewhere near the end of the story (when you know she's sick of TB and is going to die), waiting for Robert at the sanatorium.
The title is the name of another one of Remarque's books, by the way. I thought it would fit the scene, since her love for Robby was Pat's 'spark of life' throughout the whole time of her sickness until her death D:

I massively abused this picture to try out some things I haven't yet been able to add in my other artworks: From colored outlines and 'wannabe-realistic' roses to softer coloring and ... an extraordinary shape. The latter, OF COURSE, had been a part of my concept for this piece from the very beginning on and has nothing - I repeat - absolutely nothing to do with me screwing up royally in a hopeless attempt to use watercolors for the first time in 10 years and subsequently having to crop the paper down to what was left unharmed by the horrible mess I caused with my immense stupidity. GOT IT?



P.S.: I probably should have considered the fact that sitting by the window in the middle of the coldest winter on a windowsill made of marble is probably going to kill her ... even ... faster ಠ_ಠ
